Iran suspends commitments under Pakistan-mediated deal with US
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Iran announced on Saturday that it has suspended all commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), accusing the United States of violating the agreement. The announcement was made by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, marking Tehran's strongest statement yet that it no longer considers itself bound by the deal.
The MoU was signed in June with Pakistan as a mediator. It aimed to end hostilities between Washington and Tehran. The 14-point agreement included provisions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, lift the US naval blockade, and begin a phased de-escalation after weeks of fighting. However, military exchanges between the two countries have continued, and Iran now blames the US for violations that led to the suspension.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil shipments. Tensions between Iran and the US have been high for years, with periodic clashes. The Islamabad agreement was seen as a potential step toward reducing conflict, but this latest development signals a return to heightened tensions.
No further details were provided about specific violations or next steps. The international community is watching closely as the situation unfolds.
