Japan's earthquake death toll has climbed to 34, while China has raised its flood death toll in the northwestern province of Gansu to 25, as both countries cope with the aftermath of disasters.
In Japan, roughly 9,000 people remain in temporary shelters, enduring searing heat, after the earthquake. The death toll now stands at 34.
In China, the state news agency Xinhua reported that flash floods that hit Gansu's Weiyuan county last Sunday have killed 25 people, up from an earlier figure of 10. Another 23 people were injured.
