More than 50 bodies were found decomposing at a funeral home on Chicago's South Side after residents complained for months about a foul stench from the location.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Thursday it was notified of bodies being improperly stored at the mortuary. A statement from the office said it had been alerted to the situation, but no additional details were provided.
Neighbors had reported the odor coming from the funeral home, and the medical examiner's office is investigating. The condition of the bodies and how long they had been at the facility have not been confirmed.
