FIFA President Gianni Infantino has abandoned a plan to sell off stakes in the World Cup and other competitions after widespread backlash, but the move has not silenced critics.
The Asian Football Confederation said FIFA's future must be shaped through proper consultation. Uefa, European football's governing body, went further, saying Infantino's leadership style cannot continue and demanding a thorough and fundamental review of FIFA's governance.
In a strongly worded statement, Uefa criticised what it called secret schemes, shabby backroom deals and faceless individuals. It also said it has lost confidence in Infantino.
The plan to sell stakes in the World Cup and other competitions was scrapped overnight after the backlash.
