The DMK has moved the Supreme Court seeking immediate release of Cauvery water from Karnataka. The plea requests a directive for Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs of water daily for 15 days and to clear an accumulated release shortfall of 9.46 TMC. The DMK stressed the urgency, describing the present period as the most critical of the entire water year for the Cauvery delta. Karnataka's Chief Minister has urged protesters to withdraw their agitation against the water releases, saying the state will safeguard farmers' interests while respecting judicial orders. Separately, opposition parties in Tamil Nadu are pressing the government to call an all-party meeting on the dispute.
