Authorities in Los Angeles County arrested a 38-year-old man near President Donald Trump's golf club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, after he was seen taking photos and videos and appearing to monitor security preparations ahead of the president's visit.
The man, identified as Jeanine John Taele, was taken into custody on Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. He was carrying a 16-round magazine with ammunition in his pocket. After his arrest, investigators said they also found a loaded gun in his car.
The arrest happened shortly before Trump was due to attend a fundraising dinner at the coastal golf club. Trump was scheduled to speak at a Republican National Committee fundraiser at the club. Authorities said Taele appeared to be monitoring security-planning activities while taking the photos and videos.
No further details were immediately released. An investigation is under way.
