Michigan Democrats are voting Tuesday in a high-profile Senate primary between progressive Abdul El-Sayed and moderate Representative Haley Stevens, a contest seen as a barometer for the Democratic Party's direction.
The race has drawn record outside spending, with the pro-Israel group AIPAC pouring some $30 million into it. That makes it the largest-ever financial contribution in a Democratic congressional primary, according to reports.
El-Sayed, a left-wing populist, is challenging Stevens, who is backed by the party establishment. The winner will advance to the general election in this battleground state.
