Madonna has paid tribute to William Orbit, the producer behind her Grammy-winning album Ray of Light, following his death at the age of 69.
In a message posted on social media, the singer described Orbit as a “genius” and “otherworldly,” saying he pressed a magical button inside her and led her into a galaxy of unrealized dreams. She also called him her “Ray of Light,” referencing both the album and its title track.
Orbit and Madonna worked together several times over the years, most notably on Ray of Light, which was praised for its genre-blending sound and won a Grammy Award. The album is considered one of the most influential of her career.
