The Assam government has given ₹15,000 each to 62,696 families affected by the state's floods, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced. The payout is part of immediate relief as the state continues to battle the crisis.
Three more deaths have raised the flood toll in Assam to 85, according to official figures. Around 1.35 lakh people remain affected across the state.
Sivasagar is the worst-hit district with more than 55,000 people affected, followed by 40,000 in Charaideo and 22,000 in Jorhat.
Sarma said an assessment of permanent damages caused by the flooding will begin next week and is expected to be completed within ten days.
