The Delhi government's Lakshmi Yojana portal went live on Saturday, opening registration for a scheme that will provide women in the city with Rs 2,500 in monthly financial assistance. Women began queuing at registration camps across Delhi from 8 am, and by noon 1,083 women had registered, according to officials.
Chief Minister Gupta launched the portal, saying the scheme is aimed at the economic empowerment of Delhi's women. The government has allocated a budget of Rs 5,100 crore for the programme, he said, adding that registration has begun from Saturday.
The rollout marks the start of a promise made by the Aam Aadmi Party government. The scheme is expected to benefit lakhs of women in the national capital. Registration camps have been set up across Delhi to help women sign up, and the portal allows online registration as well.
Officials said the process will continue over the coming weeks, with eligible women receiving the monthly payment directly into their bank accounts. The government has urged eligible women to register early to ensure timely benefits.
