The Jharkhand government has opened dialogue with protesters, describing the talks as positive, even as the stir continues. The protest has entered its second week, with The Times of India reporting it as Day 14 and The Hindu saying it is the 15th day.
The government has also invited another faction of agitators for talks. According to The Hindu, JLKM leader Devendra Nath Mahto, who has been on a hunger strike for seven days, is scheduled for talks with the government and has submitted the names of an eight-member delegation.
Student representatives said they will continue their agitation, while a state minister said the government was considering the students' demands sympathetically. Hindustan Times reported that the government held its first talks with the students amid the protest.
The talks come as the protest over major demands continues, with the group seeking concrete decisions on all major demands by August 10, according to Times of India.
