India has officially named more than two dozen locations in Arunachal Pradesh, a move widely seen as a direct response to China's efforts to rename places in the disputed border region.
The newly named sites include mountains, villages, passes and a lake along the McMahon Line, the de facto border between India and China. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, identifying these places is meant to facilitate their accurate recognition and raise public awareness.
Reports differ on the exact number of named sites. The Hindustan Times, citing the home ministry, lists 21 land areas, four passes and a lake — totaling 26. The Times of India puts the number at 27, describing the step as a decisive clarification of territorial boundaries that counters Chinese assertions.
