Iran says Strait of Hormuz is under its control after Trump claim

The statement came from Hossein Taeb, head of Iran's Basij paramilitary force, according to Iran's Fars news agency. A day earlier, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that the U.S. had "total control" of the strait and suggested it might "keep it." The Strait of Hormuz is a vital shipping lane through which about a fifth of the world's oil passes. Iran's assertion underscores the ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington over the waterway, which Iran has previously threatened to close in response to U.S. pressure.
