Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in eastern China on Sunday evening and moved northward on Monday, disrupting travel and triggering flood warnings in the capital.
The long-lived storm prompted nearly 40 percent of flights to be canceled at Shanghai's two airports. The Shanghai government said there were 642 cancellations at Pudong airport and 301 at Hongqiao. German broadcaster DW, however, reported close to 1,500 flight cancellations in the city. Passengers were urged to check with their airlines for updates.
Heavy rain continued across the region. Some rail services, including trains to Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang, began to recover Monday morning.
The weakening storm also placed parts of Beijing under flood alert, according to DW, which said the typhoon has prompted mass evacuations. The full extent of the disruption was not immediately clear.
