Glen Hansard, the Oscar-winning Irish singer-songwriter, was remembered at his funeral in Dublin on Tuesday, with U2's Bono sharing rewritten lyrics to 'Beautiful Day' and his Swell Season bandmate Markéta Irglová paying tribute.
Bono, a special guest at the ceremony, offered adapted words for the U2 hit, describing a difficult departure but imagining Hansard waking up in heaven to the sound of angels shouting, according to the reports. He also called the late musician 'a big spirit on a big mission.'
Irglová, who performed and starred alongside Hansard in the film 'Once' and recorded with him as the Swell Season, was among those honoring his memory.
Hansard, known for his work with the bands The Frames and The Swell Season, won an Oscar for the song 'Falling Slowly' from the 2007 film. The funeral took place in his native Dublin.
