Bangladesh has ordered shopping malls, markets, and shops to operate only from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. as the country struggles with a severe power crisis. The Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources issued the directive to conserve energy and manage the electricity shortfall.
The restriction applies to all commercial establishments, requiring them to shut by 8 p.m. instead of their usual late-night hours. The move is part of broader efforts to reduce pressure on the national grid, which has been hit by power cuts lasting up to 12 hours, according to Times of India.
Bangladesh has also turned to India for help in addressing the crisis, Hindustan Times reported, though no further details were provided. The government has not announced how long the new shopping hours will remain in effect.
