Basavaraj Horatti, chairperson of the Karnataka Legislative Council, has resigned from the post. An eight-time member of the Council, Horatti is expected to formally step down on August 14, after presiding over the House proceedings on August 13, when the monsoon session begins.
Speaking to reporters, Horatti said he did not know why the Congress party had asked him to tender his resignation. The resignation comes as the state braces for the upcoming monsoon session of the legislature.
Horatti, a veteran legislator with multiple terms in the Council, had been serving as the chairperson. His exit from the role marks a leadership change in the Upper House just before the session gets under way.
