At least two people died and several others were feared trapped after a landslide hit a residential chawl in Mumbai's Kurla area on Wednesday morning. The landslide struck Gaushiya Chawl, causing debris to fall onto nearby rooms of the structure, according to a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official.
Witnesses told officials that six to eight persons were trapped under the debris. Rescue operations were underway, with fire brigade and police teams arriving at the scene to assist. Authorities were working to assess the full scale of the disaster and were awaiting further updates.
The incident prompted an immediate emergency response as concerns grew for the safety of numerous individuals believed to be beneath the rubble. Officials have not yet confirmed the total number of people affected or the extent of the damage.
