The Trump administration has revoked more than 175,000 visas since President Donald Trump returned to office, putting the country on pace for a record-breaking year, the State Department said Monday. The visas were taken from foreign nationals who “violated the terms of their visas, committed crimes, called for violence against US citizens, defrauded Americans, abused our immigration system, or endangered national security,” according to the department. Most revocations followed “law enforcement encounters,” with assault, driving under the influence, theft and drug crimes as the leading causes, the department said. The figure already surpasses previous annual totals, and officials indicated the number is likely to keep climbing. The announcement comes as the administration continues its broad crackdown on immigration and visa enforcement.
