Netflix is shutting down two video game studios, including Night School Studio, the developer behind the recently released horror game “Unhinged.” The streaming company also closed Moonloot, a Helsinki-based studio founded in 2022. Netflix acquired Night School in 2021.
“Unhinged,” which is backed by filmmakers David Fincher and Zach Cregger, was released less than two months ago. Just weeks before the shutdown, Netflix executives had praised the game's performance, describing its numbers as “really solid.” The closure comes as a surprise given that public approval.
Moonloot had not yet released a game, according to reports. The exact reasons for the closures were not disclosed. Netflix has been building its gaming division over the past few years, acquiring several studios and releasing mobile titles based on its shows and films. The shutdowns mark a pullback in that effort.
