Iran and Oman are holding negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz, with officials describing the talks as positive and the United States saying a deal could be reached soon. The talks focus on managing the crucial waterway and expanding safe shipping through it, though key differences remain unresolved.
Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman confirmed that indirect talks are continuing to avoid further regional escalation. Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has said the strait will not be reopened until the United States corrects its behavior and satisfies a long list of demands, including total compensation for war damage.
Iran has previously threatened to close the strait, a vital passage for global oil shipments, in response to U.S. actions. American officials, however, say a deal is possible in the near future. The negotiations, which also involve Qatari mediation, are seen as a step toward reducing tensions in the region, but no final agreement has been announced.
