US President Donald Trump said the Board of Peace, which he chairs for life, will take possession of Hamas's weapons as the group disarms, contradicting the board's own earlier announcement that a Palestinian technocratic body would assume that role.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland on Friday, Trump was asked who would receive the weapons and whether they would go to the new government. He replied that the Board of Peace would run the process, praising the organisation's leadership.
Just hours earlier, the Board of Peace had posted on X that its framework calls for full demilitarization, de-radicalization, and the transfer of all civilian and security authorities in Gaza to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG).
The appearance marked the president's first on-camera opportunity to build confidence in the board's plan.
