India has called up Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Auqib Nabi to replace the injured Jasprit Bumrah in the Test squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka series.
Nabi has taken 104 wickets over the past two Ranji Trophy seasons, including 60 in the 2025-26 campaign, and was a key figure in Jammu and Kashmir's first Ranji Trophy title. He also played for India A on a recent tour of Sri Lanka, taking six wickets in two first-class matches.
Bumrah, 32, remains in the squad but is subject to a fitness clearance. He missed the third ODI against England at Lord's because of an impact injury to his left knee, although he looked sharp in the two matches he did play.
The Sri Lanka Tests come at a critical time for India. The team has lost recent Test series, and former wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta said coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill will be under pressure to show clear direction during this transition period. He stressed that winning seven of India's remaining nine Tests is essential to keep their hopes of reaching the World Test Championship final alive, and warned that no Test series can be taken lightly.
