President Donald Trump has renewed his attempt to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from her post, just two months after the Supreme Court blocked his earlier effort.
According to a letter seen by Reuters, the White House told Cook this week that the president is "considering" removing her and demanded that she respond to unproven allegations of mortgage fraud. The letter did not provide evidence for the claims.
The move continues Trump's broader campaign to install allies on the central bank's board. In June, the Supreme Court dealt him a significant setback in his bid to fire Cook, who has been a critic of the president's pressure on the Federal Reserve.
Cook has not yet responded publicly to the new letter, which was reported by MarketWatch and SCMP. The White House's renewed effort signals that Trump remains determined to reshape the Fed's leadership despite legal opposition.
