The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired left-hander Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in a blockbuster trade ahead of the deadline. Skubal, who won back-to-back Cy Young Awards in 2023 and 2024, moves to the National League. His departure means the American League Cy Young race is now a two-man battle between Dylan Cease and Cam Schlittler, the first time since 2023 that someone other than Skubal will take the AL prize.
In a separate deadline deal, the Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Clay Holmes and outfielder Tyrone Taylor from the New York Mets. The Cubs needed pitching help to cover innings in a rotation that has been hit by injuries.
