A Delhi court has sentenced former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain and four others to life imprisonment for the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the February 2020 communal violence in northeast Delhi. Hussain represented the Nehru Vihar ward at the time of the riots. The court described the killing as one of “utmost brutality” and said the victim was targeted “solely on account of his religion.” The verdict sparked political exchanges, with the BJP saying it established how AAP-backed miscreants spread riots in northeast Delhi, while AAP countered that Hussain was “indirectly working for the BJP.”
