A court in Maharashtra has sentenced a man to death for the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl. The court described the crime as one of extreme brutality, saying the child, who should have spent her time in cheerfulness, was instead treated with animal passion by an acquaintance of her father's age.
In Bengaluru, the skeletal remains of a 57-year-old woman were found in her home. Police suspect she died about a year ago. A senior police officer said that for nearly a year, even the neighbours did not notice any foul smell or become suspicious about her absence, which is why the death went unreported.
In Arunachal Pradesh, a 27-year-old man was killed and two others were injured when a roadside slab collapsed near a bridge in Chimpu, Itanagar. Police said the collapse happened on Saturday.
