The United Arab Emirates accused Iran on Saturday of attacking a tanker owned by the state-run Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as it passed through the Strait of Hormuz, while Washington said an agreement between Iran and Oman to resume normal oil traffic could be close. In a statement, the UAE foreign ministry condemned what it called a hostile Iranian attack on the vessel. The accusation came as Iran, which has imposed an effective blockade of the strait, held talks with Oman over the waterway's future management. Iran wants to charge users for passage, a move the US fiercely opposes. A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Friday that Washington anticipated an agreement soon to allow oil traffic to resume.
