President Donald Trump said Friday that Israel was very happy with an agreement reached by his so-called Board of Peace for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. But according to Al Jazeera, Israel has not yet agreed to the plan, which calls for Hamas to surrender its weapons in exchange for a full Israeli withdrawal from the territory.
Saudi Arabia welcomed the agreement, with its foreign ministry praising Trump's leadership and calling the accord a landmark achievement. In a statement, the ministry expressed appreciation to Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, the United States, the Peace Council, and all partners who contributed to the deal. It reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's commitment to the comprehensive peace plan endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803, stressing the importance of carrying out all agreed phases within a defined timetable in a credible, final and irreversible way.
Saudi Arabia also underscored the need for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the deployment of an international stabilization force, and the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance and reconstruction support to Palestinians. It said the return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza and the preservation of the unity of the occupied Palestinian territories are essential to the plan's success. The kingdom added that the agreement should be the starting point for a comprehensive political process that guarantees Palestinians' inalienable rights, including self-determination and an independent state, while allowing peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel based on mutual recognition. It reiterated that lasting peace requires a full political settlement that ends the conflict and brings security, stability, and shared prosperity to the region.
