Canada and nine allied countries have issued a joint advisory warning that North Korea is using remote IT workers to defraud businesses and funnel money into its nuclear weapons program. The statement by Global Affairs Canada and its counterparts said Pyongyang has continuously deployed a network of remote IT workers to defraud companies and transfer revenues toward weapons proliferation. The advisory also flagged the workers as an insider threat to businesses abroad. It urged countries and companies to deepen their understanding of the tactics used and to implement measures to counter them. According to Al Jazeera, the scheme involves AI-assisted workers generating hard currency for the regime. The warning reflects renewed concern among Western allies about North Korea's efforts to fund its armaments programme through cyber-enabled fraud.
