Flooding in Assam has now killed 87 people, with two more deaths reported in the worst-hit Sivasagar district, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). The agency said 1.28 lakh people across seven districts of the state are affected by the floods.
Heavy rains are wreaking havoc across wide parts of India, and the combined death toll in Kerala and Assam has crossed 100, according to reports. Flash floods have also hit Kashmir.
The new fatalities in Sivasagar bring the state's toll to 87, while Kerala has also reported deaths in the ongoing downpour-triggered flooding. Authorities in Assam are carrying out relief and rescue operations in the affected districts.
