The planned "Booster Gold" television series for DC Studios and HBO will not move forward, its writer, David Jenkins, announced Friday. Jenkins, the creator of the pirate comedy "Our Flag Means Death," broke the news in a post on the social platform Threads, saying his version of the show had been canceled.
Jenkins also reposted a comment about the project from actor Mahershala Ali, who recently discussed it in a GQ profile. Jenkins said he could not improve on Ali's statement, which The Hollywood Reporter described as having gone viral.
The "Booster Gold" project was first reported about a year ago at Comic-Con, when Deadline revealed that Jenkins was attached to write the series for HBO. It was among several DC adaptations announced as part of the studio's development slate. No reason for the cancellation was given, and it remains unclear whether another version of the show might be pursued.
Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety all covered Jenkins' social media announcement. The Hollywood Reporter characterized the project's plans as scrapped. No additional details about the series' status or possible redevelopment were released.
