John Oliver has renewed his deal with HBO for another year, keeping Last Week Tonight on the air through the end of 2027. The 12-month agreement comes as his previous contract was set to expire this year.
Oliver, a frequent Emmy winner for the show, has made no secret of his uncertainty about the future of his parent company, joking about looking for "prospective business daddies" and mentioning a support group he shares with Stephen Colbert. He has also cited a personal motto: "You always want to be exactly as much trouble as you are worth."
The unusually short length of the deal has drawn attention, given that Oliver's show has been a critical and ratings success for HBO. The extension ensures the program will continue through at least the end of 2027.
