An explosive-laden drone was found at Leipzig-Halle airport in Germany, forcing flights to be diverted and triggering a bomb disposal response overnight. The device was defused, but German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the incident posed a new quality of danger.
Police said Wednesday they were investigating a security-related incident involving an unidentified object at the airport. A bomb disposal robot was deployed, and flights were diverted as a precaution.
German newspaper Bild reported that the object was a drone fitted with a detonator and possibly explosives, found near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft. Police did not immediately confirm that report.
The airport was affected overnight, but no injuries or damage were reported. The incident comes amid ongoing mysterious drone flights across Europe and heightened security at airports supporting Ukraine.
