Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has asked his Tamil Nadu counterpart Vijay to postpone a planned visit to Bengaluru, saying the atmosphere is not right at this time. The request comes amid the continuing dispute between the two states over Cauvery river water.
Speaking at a press meet, Shivakumar said he wants both states to benefit from the water-sharing arrangement and does not want any hard feelings. He noted that farmers in both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka depend on the river and stressed that they are all in one country.
The Cauvery dispute has flared up repeatedly. A 2018 formula for sharing the river's water was based on an assumed annual flow of 740 tmcft, but water levels have been fluctuating, complicating the arrangement.
