Prime Minister Narendra Modi has forgiven a 15-year-old girl who directed abusive slogans at him during student protests, a gesture her mother called a "new lease of life."
The teenager said she was influenced by others at the protest and later apologised, describing the Prime Minister's forgiveness as a second chance. She said she would not repeat such actions and sought acceptance of her apology. She is now receiving threats and faces ongoing police inquiries over the incident.
The girl's mother thanked Modi, saying his forgiveness came as a birthday gift for her daughter. She appealed for the withdrawal of the police case, claiming her daughter's age was incorrectly stated. She also requested stricter social media controls for minors and asked that young people be kept away from protests.
Modi had earlier appealed for restraint and forgiveness over the abusive slogans directed at him.
