Iran said the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until the United States "corrects its behaviour," while the United Arab Emirates reported that one of its ships was hit by an Iranian missile. A deal to reopen the strategic waterway appeared out of reach on Saturday.
Iran's Supreme National Security Council issued the conditions through its secretary, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, who also serves as a commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. His statement, carried by state broadcaster IRIB, demanded that Washington:
- End threats against Iran and its "sacred values"
- Permanently halt military action against Iran and its regional allies
- Withdraw US naval and air forces involved in the blockade of Iran
- Compensate Iran for damage inflicted during the recent conflict
- Lift US sanctions
- Release frozen Iranian assets
Zolghadr said the council would not retreat from these demands, whether in war or in negotiations.
Separately, the UAE said one of its ships was targeted by an Iranian missile. No further details about the incident were provided.
