A student leader was hospitalized in India's Jharkhand state on Monday after police used force to disperse protesters marching towards the state assembly. Devendra Nath Mahto, a student leader, was injured during the clash, according to his aide Pankaj Kumar, who said Mahto was hurt in a police lathi-charge near the assembly. Police used tear gas, water cannons and batons to break up the demonstration, which was held by job aspirants protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. Several protesters and four policemen were injured in the violence. Abhijeet Dipke, whose party is known as the Cockroach Party, said his group stood firmly behind Mahto.
